Vitamin B12 Benefits, Deficiency Symptoms and Injections

    Vitamin B12 Benefits

There are quite a few important and vital roles for vitamin B12 in our body. This vitamin directly affects our energy levels, as it boosts up our metabolism, and make us ‘feel more likely to get active’, as many people confidently claim after recovering from a deficiency or taking vitamin B12 shots or other supplements. Vitamin B12 also helps our body replicating DNA, growing tissues, and formatting red blood cells. It also creates a fatty substance that protects our nerve cells, and that’s precisely why many of the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency relate directly to the nerve system. Also, Vitamin B12 lowers our levels of homo cysteine in our body. This amino acid has been linked with a higher risk of heart stroke, cancer and many other modern world’s ailments.

You are able to get the same exact vitamin B12 benefits out of any B12 supplement out there, or any food rich in B12. Just make sure you get the active form of this vitamin, cyanocobalamin or hydroxocobalamin, which is the most common form sold in supplements. There was a lot of dispute over the effectiveness of algae, regarding it’s B12 capabilities, as it does not contain the active form of this vitamin.

    Vitamin B12 Deficiency Symptoms

There are quite a lot of possible symptoms of b12 vitamin deficiency, but the main ones are:

    • Fatigue / Tiredness
    • Sharp nerve shocks
    • Shortness of breath
    • Random tinglings in the hands, feet and even tongue.
    • Sores in the corners of the mouth.
    • Headaches or migraines.
    • Poor memory.
    • Confusion and/or disorientation.
    • Disturbed sleeping.
    • Delusions
    • Depression.
    • Loss of appetite which might lead to weight loss and eventually anorexia.

    * These vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms might as well be the result of something else, often much less serious and worrisome, so do not make any conclusions upon your own observation. You can check yourself for a deficiency quite easily within minutes with a simple blood test at your local medical center.

    Vitamin B12 Injections

Vitamin B12 injections are the most widely recognized and well known treatment for treating people with a vitamin B12 deficiency. These injections are rather painful, at least at first, and require closer observation in order to understand if they are truly the treatment we wish for ourselves to be cured out of that deficiency. The point is, many people take these shots just because they are said so, and skip the less radical, and definitely much less painful, treatments of sub lingual tablets, intra nasal sprays and jel, and of course, the all natural regular vitamin B12 foods.

The only true benefit of these vitamin B12 shots is that they are given directly to the blood stream, which is a huge, huge advantage for people having problems with their Intrinsic Factor, which prevents them from absorbing this vitamin properly. Otherwise, in my personal opinion, which is based on simple logic and scientific observation, there is no real need to take these shots, as the alternative are effective as well, and are much less painful and ‘messy’. Anyway, be sure to consult a doctor or medical assistance in whatever decision you decide to take, as this is your health, your most important asset.
