Tips For Learning To Lucid Dream

People experience lucid dreaming at least once in their lifetime. It is a state in which you are aware that you are dreaming. In normal dreaming, it is often difficult to change or manipulate events, people, things or situations but in a lucid dream, this is possible. People who have begun learning to lucid dream can even manipulate elements in the dreamworld to their liking. For many people, lucidity in sleep is often achieved without control on the dreamer’s part – it just occurs on its own. It is, however, possible to train oneself to enter a dream state in a more conscious way by learning to lucid dream.


By learning to lucid dream, an individual begins to participate in a dreamstate with heightened consciousness. This is helpful as a form of meditation. The process has also been used to manage nightmares in some people. Of course, there is no denying that the practice is enjoyable, opening up a whole new world of experience and emotions.

Taking the first step

The most crucial step in learning to lucid dream is the mental preparation work necessary to program the mind into recognizing what is real and what is a dream. This is important particularly once the mind has entered the dreamstate where the environment can sometimes mislead him or her into believing that he or she is still awake. Mental preparation is also necessary when learning to lucid dream. This is to help the individual achieve the discipline and positive thinking necessary to make the attempts successful.

Training your mind and body to work together

When you begin learning to lucid dream, you need to train yourself into controlling your body and mind. When waking up, try not to move or open your eyes. Be still and allow your mind to recall your dream/s earlier. Focus only on the dreams and do not allow thoughts of your waking life to invade your mind.

When learning to lucid dream, focus on the environment of your sleeping state and try to remember what your experience was like. This will help prevent dreams from fading. Relive the dreams of last night up to the last element and then allow yourself to step into the waking realm quietly.

Another helpful step is keeping a dream journal to increase recall. Do not just simply describe the dream – include feelings and insights as well. By doing this, you will be able to familiarize yourself with dreamsigns, which are unique to you.

Adding awareness

An important step in learning to lucid dream is to increase your awareness. Focusing the attention to yourself while you are dreaming will help you determine whether you are awake or not. Becoming aware of yourself and your thoughts will help you learn to identify certain signs and patterns in your dreamstate. When this happens, you can begin exploring your dreamscape more consciously and actively. Learning to lucid dream takes some practice but once you are able to master your thoughts, it can be very rewarding.
